Do I still have to submit a Life Certificate?

Residents of Trinidad and Tobago, both national and non nationals who have submitted their Life Certificates by June 26, 2015 will no longer have to submit a Life Certificate twice annually.

Will I ever have to submit a Life Certificate again?

NIBTT may request proof of life from any beneficiary as it deems necessary.

How does the automatic system work?

NIB has partnered with the Ministry of Legal Affairs to share the Registrar General’s death records. These records will automatically let the NIBTT know if a benefit should be discontinued.

I didn’t submit my electronic birth certificate in 2014 should I submit it now?

Beneficiaries who have not submitted their electronic birth certificates are encouraged to do so now.

I submitted my electronic birth certificate in 2014 should I submit it again?

No, you need not submit it again.

I was not born in Trinidad and Tobago, but I live here and receive an NIS pension/ survivor’s benefit. I do not have a Trinidad and Tobago Birth certificate. Do I have to submit Life Certificates?

No. Once you reside in Trinidad and Tobago and have submitted a life certificate between April 27th and June 26th, 2015 you no longer have to submit life certificates. The NIBTT may however, request additional information from you including proof of life as it deems necessary.

I am a national of Trinidad and Tobago but I live in another country. I submitted my electronic Birth Certificate last year, Do I still need to submit life certificates?

Yes. Once you do not reside in Trinidad and Tobago you will be required to submit a Life Certificate twice annually.
